Our Lands
The original Trust block is situated at 124 Downward Rd Te Teko comprising 7,773 hectares. This land is subject to a Forestry Right with Rayonier Matariki Forests for 50 years terminating 31 January 2070.
There are two areas within the block that have been set aside for ecological enhancement. The Puhikoko reserve is 546 ha in area and is a remnant of semi-coastal forest that contains rewarewa, tawa, kanuka, tanekaha, hinau, miro, rimu, mamaku and puketea. The reserve is also home to kiwi and NZ falcon.
The Ngakauroa Wetland is 13 ha in area and provides important habitat to protected species of giant kokopu, the spotless crake and the North Island fernbird.
Nga Whenua Rahui has entered into a long term project to assist the Trust in managing these nationally significant areas of indigenous biodiversity.
